The core of Takamine's electronics system is its proprietary Palathetic pickup. Superior sound balance, high separation and clear and natural sound of Takamine owes much to the unique design of this device. With individually shielded six piezo-electric transducers, one for each string, the unit is hanged down right beneath the bridge saddle. This unique design allows the pickup to be isolated from the vibration of the body, and enables each transducer to pick up the vibration of the string directly through the bridge saddle, which contributes to realizing unmatched level of anti-feedback even under mega-volume environment.
The diagram shows how the Palathetic pickup is configured and how it differs from other pickupss using film-type transducers. Except for some minor refinements, the basic design remains unchanged since the introduction of the unit in the late 70s. This proves that the design concept behind it was highly practical and well ahead of time.
Considering the difference between nylon and steel strings, Takamine developed two Palathetic pickups, one for nylon-string guitars and another for steel-string.
